Rainy Weekend

On Friday TC put up the tree and other decorations. Things look very good around here. On Saturday it was raining all day but I had to go and get a new washer as ours quit. Thanks to Lowe's for a $200.00 reduction in price. Also, I bought some lumber for a special project that a local construction company is doing for free labor. Today it is going to be rainy again all day so after church I think we take the boys out to eat and the head back for some Sunday Football. The Panthers play at 1:00PM. Looking forward to our new night of Life Group tonight. That's about it except we have a few with high temps and the sniffles but all in all everything is good.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

We are off this morning and taking the kids up to our house in North Carolina. The kids are so excited cause they are going to Nanny and Papa's house. Off we go!

Thanksgiving Celebration

At their best, they really did do a good job.
Here is TC setting up the boys to sing Fifty Nifty United States.
The staff did a great job preparing and then serving with other volunteers all of the families of the kids here at Collins.

Here is the Turkey that TC cooked. Boy it smelled good.

Early Turkey

Monday came with much to do and it was done. Today, we have our annual Thanksgiving Dinner. Let me explain. All caseworkers, guardian ad litems, parents and many others of each child is invited to a dinner arranged and cooked by Collins Staff. A local business provides a great place to accomidate around 100 people. Each house will provide some entertainment. This should be very good and I am excited abot it. I also have a couple of construction guys that are not busy right now and they are going to add a lean-to onto our storage building for bikes and mowers and things.

Sunday Update

Well I've cleaned up and put all the outside things up. So far we've been the only ones here. Late yesterday three other campers came in but they are far away. We have to check out by 2:00 Pm but they are not too sticky about that. Just catching up on some blog reading and listening to a little Charles Stanley, Day of discovery and now some good Christian Praise and Worship Music. Lois I wish we were closer camping you guys could join us or vice versa. Hope everyone has a great Sunday. Thanksgiving is coming and we get to take the boys to my Mom's house and that is going to be a blast!

I guess with allergys and all we were just pooped yesterday. With the medicine I took I was just sleepy all day. We had to cancel our dinner plans with some friends. Today I feel much better. TC was sad because she thinks of not having her parents during the holidays and she is not able to be close to her family. Anyway, today is much better. I fixed some more taters in the dutch oven this morning along with hamburger steak, and yes it was breakfast. yummy again!!!. Finishing up our 4 day break. Next week is going to be busy busy busy!!!!

Training and Running

Today we had ADHD Training at the Tribble Center. The lady teaching was pretty good and I sorta kinda almost enjoyed it. This afternoon I have a meeting with Paul the connections pastor at Foothills, then we got three different times for Boy Scouts and of course our Life Group meets at 6:30 PM. Things are hopping today so after the meeting this morning TC and I went over to South Cove and parked at the end of the island at listened to the Lake for a bit. That was nice. Much to do so we are out of here today!

Monday

Monday and it was a little chilly this morning. I got the boys off to school. TC and I talked a little and then I met with our supervisor. I also talked to the other house dad and talked about their plans in the next month or so. Looks like things are moving pretty face for them. Note to self, pray for them as they are going through their transition. Not much else today, I blew some leaves off the drive to watch God blow them back. Quite funny is it not. I also found out that some of our best friends for almost 21 years have separated and that breaks my heart. They have been married for almost 27 years and that does not set well with me. Anyway, we got one going to a birthday party, another collecting can food for school and it's almost supper time. I can smell it coming down the hall. All for now!

Stray Thoughts

Good Sunday Morning. It's a beautiful here in Seneca SC as the sun is shining and there is quite the nip in the air. Yesterday I attended something called Seneca Connection. It was a first meeting of folks who like to play music but currently didn't have any place to play. I enjoyed the meeting but it seems that they were promoting the two particular churches and certainly wanted folks to try out the church. We can't do that right now so we will see if it leads just getting together and jamming. It should be a quite day as we learned that we may not be getting another boy so soon. Next week will be for sure. Things change all the time around here. One thing you might find interesting is that after we put the kids to bed, we have to make bed checks every 15 minutes until they are asleep. We have to document each bed check. It's just another one of the what seems like thousands paper trail we must follow. I've been busy replacing bulbs and batteries in exit signs as the yearly fire inspection is coming next week. Turns out I had to do not only house but the girls and the office. It's done! Well I rambled enough I guess, it's time to wake the boys and get some breakfast started. All for now

The End of a Good Week

A good week coming to an end. Yesterday after supper TC and Crystal, our relief staff, went to a conference at Furman University entitled, "Bringing Home The Prodigal", and they enjoyed themselves. I stayed at home with the boys and let the older ones play outside in the dark. After letting them watch Kung Fu Panda, they took showers and headed for bed. Everything was quite by around 9:30 or so and I had a quite evening. TC got home around 11:00 PM and we went to bed. Today, of course two of the kids go home so we will have five for the weekend. On Monday we are getting a new boy that will bring our numbers up to eight. Actually, he is five years old and is coming up from the girls cottage so he is not new to Collins, just to us. We are having to make some room changes to accommodate him so we will do that probably on Sunday afternoon. That's all for now. Oh yea, TC bought a violin/fiddle as she has always wanted to play one so she will be practicing. That's life in the boys cottage, More later

Change Is In The Air

As almost always each time a transition is made between us and our support staff, there are some challenges that face us with these kids. One of the things that help holds it together is a routine, although it is tough sometimes to keep it. And, as usual after a day or so the boys are back to themselves. Just a little something I find interesting. Yesterday went very well except we had to cancel our Home Group meeting. Some of the boys had Upward basketball try outs. Thank goodness that I don't have to coach this year. There seems to be some movement from some of our friends. Ross and family are moving from Clinton SC to a childrens home just outside Washington DC, and our friends Sonny and Bobby are leaving YWAM near Lakeside Montana to be back home around North or South Carolina. I mentioned to them about the possibility of doing what we are doing. We'll see. Also, we just heard that the girl's houseparents are leaving at the end of the year. So, a lot of changing in the air. Not for us though, we are staying put for the time being. That is until God says it's time to move on.

Veterans Day 2008

As I reflect this morning of this special day, it is those who have served our country in the military that deserve this honor. Now, I served but at no time was I ever in harm's way. I was willing, but never had to. For that I am thankful and for those who have my hat and my heart goes to them. There is no need for duplicate post so check out Sarge Charlie for an awesome post and remembrance!

Some pictures Camping at Fort Bragg

Morning time just after sunrise at Smith Lake at the Army Travel Campground just outside of Fort Bragg.
It was pretty fun just hanging with Chad and of course we had to have a fire and roast some marsh mellows. Good conversations.
While this campground is not as nice as the one at fort Benning, we still wound up with a great campsite.

You gotta see this one

From a Horse Lover, Enjoy

Amazing Grace

A different take today. I just happen to be one who loves the American Western heritage and also Native American Culture, but mostly I love my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. So, the song Amazing Grace is usually very special to most Christians. Here is a different spin of the song sung in the Native Cherokee language. I thought it was very nice. You can follow the youtube links to find the group, Walela.

Hairdos and Hayrides

This post id dedicated to my wife and daughter. Yesterday, Christie came down for some MOMMY time. I kept the boys and made them do some chores around the outside and then hooked up the trailer to the tractor and took them on a little ride in the woods, while they took off for an afternoon of fun. First, they ate Mexican food and then the shocker. I did not know about the plans for hair change, but as I hear it it was a spur of the moment thing, so check it out.
The above pic is something I have lived with for 25 years. It is what attracted me to her so many years ago.
Now, here is the after picture. At 45 my TC is hotter than ever. The shorter hair brings more out of the face. I guess you could say I married up!!!
Christie like it so much they went back and got hers done. I am a little jealous so I think I will get my hair done as well. Wait a minute, you have to have hair in order to get it done, oh well. I am so glad for TC and her day with Christie. I am Wade and I approve this message and hairdo!
