It's my birthday

Lots of birthday wishes today. Even though I have been sick and in bed most of the day it's hard to believe that I am 46 already. Time flies. We are completely out of our elk Park house and have moved all of our stuff to the Faith house in spruce Pine. When we get off shift Saturday morning we will go there full time. We believe that the Lord has opened this door for us and we are glad to step through it.

A Broken nose

Monday morning in Waco and Mom and Dad just left for the VA. This holiday seems to have flown by before I knew it. We left Saturday morning and took Chad some stuff we had in storage using Daddy's truck. W got back late Saturday night and on Sunday TC was sick so we pretty did nothing all day. It's Monday morning and last night Chad called to say that he walked to the convenient store around 8:30 last night and was attacked by 6 teenagers. His new apartment in just outside the ghetto so it is not the most desired places. The final tally was that he had a broke nose and I think a broke finger. All of this for a pack of smokes which he didn't get and lost what little money he had until the first. Life is tough sometimes! He is doing OK and will bounce back. We are heading back to Elk Park today and hopefully start boxing up the few things we have and try and make the move on Tuesday to the new cottage in Spruce Pine.

Thursday, December 24, 2009

We left Tuesday and went back to our old home, Collins Home and Family Ministries, and got to see several of our boys. How much fun we had taking "A" out to lunch. We returned back to Elk Park and now have moved to Waco for Christmas. Leaving here Saturday and going to see Chad at Fort Bragg. Merry Christmas Everyone!

Snowy Days at crossnore

We got about 17 inches of snow here in Crossnore. The girls are having a blast playing in the snow. Looks like a white Christmas for them. It is good to get out and work int he office this morning for a few hours. Planning on heading to SC to see some of the boys at Collins on Tuesday and then heading to Waco for Christmas. Will probably be moving sometime next week from our rented house in elk Park to our new cottage in spruce Pine. Lots going on right now. Both our daughter and son are moving into a new place right now and so are we. Will explain the new job later.

A busy Week

Back at Crossnore and things are hopping. Tuesday we went skiing at sugar Mountain and the whole trip was paid by a donor. Over 70 of us. Crossnore has so many great donors. This week there is so much happening. today we filled Christmas bags and Thursday is a great little thing called the bird cage. We will have a program and dinner and everyone dresses up in their new Christmas clothes, again paid for by a donor. Friday we are having a party at the town square, bonfire and singing. Saturday, a place called haircut 101 has adopted our cottage and they are giving all the girls a haircut, a Japanese dinner and a show at Appalachian State University. A busy week indeed. Oh yea, tomorrow we will go and see our new cottage. We start there January 2nd. The cottage is actually located in Spruce Pine NC. We are so excited about this new adventure and we don't even have to leave Crossnore.

Pictures of training

The location of my training. What a great place! Inside the training hut. It was cold and wet but it was great.

Last day of training.

Merlin already loves me! This is Delilah, a part draft horse. I want this one but it's not going to happen. We bonded over the week.

This is Merlin. He will be our newest addition come spring. He is great little horse, around 9 years old.

Change 101

We had a meeting this morning with the leadership staff and have been invited to join the staff of the Faith House, which is a transitional living program that Crossnore calls Stepping Stones. The house is actually in Spruce pine NC. This move will free me up to work more at the associational level. God had a plan all along and now we are seeing it more clearly. This change will take place on January 2nd

Friday, December 11, 2009

WOW, what a great week this had been. Now, I found out that this association of Equine assisted Psychotherapy has a ministry based componement. I am so excited at what God is doing! It has been so cold all week and our classroom is outside all the time but this is great! I feel that God has put me back in the game. So, God has me now as a mountain missionary, a houseparent and now horses. What could be better?

Looking Good

Well we had the interview today and the tour of the new house. All went well. The one needed to decide said she felt really good about it. The house is great and there are four girls and two boys. All of them drive except one. This is called a stepping stones cottage and it is basically just a place where kids can go to college before they start in adult life. This will open me up to work with the churches of Avery County more and it looks like God just keeps on blessing! Gotta run as I start my 40 hours of training to become an equine specialist. This is going to be exciting.

Sunday, December 06, 2009

We are finishing up a 7 day run at Crossnore. It's been very busy but it's been a good week. I am working here at the office tonight for a while and TC is taking the girls to get some supplies. The girls have done a bunch of baking this weekend so I have ate a lot. I called them "domestic Deva's". We are interviewing for another job on Monday at Crossnore. If we get it I will share details. I am starting training Tuesday through Saturday 40 hours of intense training to become an equine specialist. This way, I can deal with the horses while the therapist can work with the child. I am very excited about this. I better get to work because time is limited.

So Much To do

It's been a very busy week so far. I am in the office right now but not for long. They have eliminated several positions at Crossnore and combing some houses. We just got two new girls and the work to get them in and all their paperwork caught up is tremendous. Yes, we are busy. Meeting someone this morning to talk about a pastors banquet in March and plan that out. So much to do and so little time.

Down Range

Again, looking back at some pics. I remember when we saw this picture. It was one of the first we had seen of chad actually down range. This is his unit and while most of them have come home who know what will happen with the build up. For goodness sake, lets forget about playing nice and kick some taliban butt. No Prisnors!

Looking back on some good times...

We had a great thanksgiving feast at Mom and Dad's and enjoyed spending time with my family. It's back to work now as we start another 7 days at Crossnore tomorrow. I came across this video on a flash drive and thought I would post it. This was last summer when we took the boys to the beach camping. All of these boys have gone home now except one, Allan and I do miss him so. It was so hard leaving them but everything changes sooner or later.

Falling Behind

We are doing Chaneover today, meaing we get off around 11:00 this morning. After lunch I have a meeting with the assocation rep of the Baptist State Convention. It's going to be a good day, even though right now I feel 10 miles behind. I will catch up or I may even change directions. This is a new way to deal with stress, forget about it! Well, this has been a great week but it has ended very busy and we have a lot to do in order to leave today, so I better get with it.

Sunday, November 22, 2009

Had a great time preaching at Jonas Ridge Baptist Church this morning. TC took the girls to Newland First and had Thanksgiving dinner there. I enjoyed a hardee burger. Me and the girls cleaned the gym this afternoon and I also watched the race. Nice going Jimmy Johnson. My man Mark Martin was second. Winding down tonight and getting ready for Monday. What's crazy is that just as soon as I cancelled my Internet card it started working here at the house at Crossnore. Their Internet will not let me get on blogger or face book. Oh well!

Marshmellows and Campfires

What a day....Worked in the office this morning. After lunch we did food pickup and then picked the girls up from school. I drove around the county, 47 miles taking pictures of the churches to be posted on the web page one day. Sad part is I only got 7 churches so far. Many miles yet to go. Tonight we are taking the girls to a campfire and roast marsh mellows and have a sing time. Tomorrow we have to go the mall after lunch in Boone. Tomorrow tonight I will be attending the WMU Pastors Banquet and Sunday morning I will be preaching at Jonas Ridge Baptist Church. It's been a very busy week but a great one. Check in later

Two Places at One time?

Back in the office this morning. It's been a great week so far with the girls at Crossnore. Tuesday, we went to their basketball game in Morganton NC. It was 11:40 PM before all of them got home. Late night indeed! We has some great training on Wednesday from a godly woman on sexual abuse and how to help kids cope with that. It was god training but hard to handle as well. What a terrible thing. I fixed hot dogs for supper last night because TC has to take one girl to have an e-ray of her elbow. One of the thing that is hard to deal with is that we have decided that i am to never be alone with just one girl, so we have to adjust some things at times. It is still hard to balance moving up here and the two jobs I have. I am waiting on God to lead me in a decision for the coming new year. Remain at both or just focus on one. I feel my age sometimes when I need to be in two places at once. god will let us know. I should be in the office today and tomorrow and we have an outing with the girls on Saturday. I will be preaching next Sunday so TC will have to take the girls to church by herself, no problem. That's all for now.

Moving and a Major Crash

Since we got off last Tuesday, we have fully moved to our new house in Elk Park NC. It was very rainy and muddy but the job is done. Working in the office today and Mom and Dad are coming up for the weekend for a visit. Perhaps one day I can start blogging more often, but right now there just is not enough time. Our new house is TV and Internet free and it is going to stay that way. Two of our computers have crashed and only the old laptop is working. God is blessing and we are looking forward to the weekend. All for now.....

Thursday, November 05, 2009

A better week indeed!

Oh, the difference in boys and girls has been awesome. The girls are so quiet and their rooms are so clean. This has been a good week. Getting plenty of time in at the office this morning. Can't wait to get off next Tuesday though and finish moving into our new house. TC has been sick but she is feeling better today. I hope to get the blazer out of the shop tomorrow too. It needed brakes and the heater fixed. Well that's about all.

The First Cup

First cup of joe is always the best....It's moving day, or at least move what we have up here now. It was nice to have the Prophets Chamber, or very small apartment here at the association office. If anyone is coming our way, let me know and I can hook you up in a room for two . Can fit one small child on the love seat. Be sure to call first though.

A Great Day

Great day at Beech Mountain. A great couple took us out to lunch at Shirly's near Hampton Tenn., came back to the apartment and took a nap, now going to church at Minneaoplis to hear Pastor Brian. A good day indeed! Moving in to our new house tomorrow.....

A great Weekend

What a great time down in Waco. I can't believe my youngest child is 21. After a few days in Waco we took Chad back to fort Bragg where he and Christian, will probably get married at the justice of the peace sometime next week. They said they will have a ceremony come spring. Tc and i drove back to the mountains in the RV and was going to stay around Wilkesboro or Boone, but decided to brave the fog and come on into Newland. Tonight we are attending our churches fundraiser dinner and Trunk and Treat. The weather is not so great today, but maybe a few will brave the wind and rain. Tomorrow I am preaching at Beech Mountain baptist Church and then we are going to get our key to our new rented home. There a little something about giving them a check too. I guess we will take what we have up here now over to the house on Monday. Tuesday, we go back to Crossnore, where we will be greeted by a lot of change. They have changed our cottage from an all boys cottage to an all girls cottage. We are happy about that change as it will be better for TC come January. God is still blessings....

A One Year Lease

Off from Crossnore this morning and working at the office the rest of the day. I had a great meeting today with our moderator and this afternoon TC and I agreed to a one year lease on a nice little cottage in Elk Park. Just 20 feet or so out the back is a little creek that runs fast and loud. This place has a little foot bridge and an outside cooking stove next to the creek. I'll be making me some biscuits in our dutch oven for sure. Back at the office tonight in the apartment and working here tomorrow. We will probably head to Waco late Wednesday. Our son chad turns 21 on Thursday so we are heading down to spend some time with him. That's about all....

A Quickie

Busy trying to fit a few hours at the office this morning. This is tougher than I thought but it looks like I will have to make it work until the end of the year. We will see how we can change things come January. Not much time to post or read so I will keep it short today.

A Church Family

Well lets come down off our soapbox a spell. I reckon I was just venting. Anyway, Saturday was so good as we met Christie and David in black Mountain. They were having some sort of a festival, so after eating at a German Restaurant we walked around, did a little shopping and a lot of talking. Back to the office last night where we are staying for a few weeks. The apartment is small but it works. We have the RV plugged up outside so it works for us right now. This morning we went to Minneapolis Baptist Church where we joined the church because we love spending time with those folks. I love Preacher Brian's preaching too. We needed a place to relax and call home even if we won't be there too often. As Director of Missions for Avery Baptist Association, I have 23 churches to attend at least twice a year. That is my goal anyway. Pastor Brian asked me back tonight to preach so I guess I know where we are going tonight. One more day tomorrow in the office and then we must head back to Crossnore. All for now....

The Ole Sarge and my Rant

I think that everyone should read the ole Sarge's blog. How can this information be there and we not follow the opinion of a patriot. I think that this is the difference between the America victorious and America defeated, "Enough warriors ready to follow a real patriot into victory" As in the past, the politicians have screwed it up again and again and again. Perhaps we should remember our oath that we are to protect this country against the enemy, both foreign and domestic. I Swear I am sick to death of these politicians thinking they can have their way. Al Gore has made millions off the scare tactic and of course off the idiots that believe him(perhaps he deserves that money from them). Regardless, the older I get the more I assume and agree that I am part of a regular crowd that gets it. I have met this regular crowd, a group of people who pay their bills, raise their families and work hard everyday. I am proud to be a regular person, and for all you freaks out there, just go cash our government check and go to the mall. There is where all your friends are at......

Friday, October 16, 2009

We went to Johnson City Tenn. tonight and got TC her birthday gifts, clothes and a new hair-do. A cut and color if you will. All is well. It's getting cold out and tonight the weather is just nasty, cold and rainy. Going to watch a civil war movie tonight and meet christie tomorrow.

Thursday, October 15, 2009

Finnally made it back to Newland with the RV. A little bit aggrivated because I can't put it where I want to because of the ground being so wet. I guess I will live. I already have one pastor to ask me come to his church and meet his people and preach, Beech Mountain Baptist Church. Directions: Go to the top of the world and down the other side about a mile. Boy, they are actually calling for a inch of snow come Sturday evening, we'll see. Catch up more later.

Monday, October 12, 2009

Well we are coming down to our last day this shift. Tomorrow we should be picking up our RV with a new roof and awning. We should be able to stay at home in Waco for a day or so and then we will come back up here. Things at Crossnore are still taxing but we are making it. We have four boys now from age 14-17. WOW, yea that's right. It's like having chad all over again. Working a few hours here in the office and then it's back for some eye exams for the boys and some dentist visits. All is well! Thanks Mom for watching the dogs and taking Benji for his hair cut.

A New Direction

It's official, I have been voted in the new Director of Missions as of last night. The night went so well, even though as we got to the church my shoes became totally useless as the soles literally began to fall off. I mean, deteriorated right in front of my eyes. I had never seen it before, perhaps I had stepped in some sort of solvent or something, not sure. Anyway, after having a cow, we decided to run to crossnore where I had another pair, so everything worked out well. I really had great liberty to preach and the questions and answer time was intense but very good. Everyone was upbeat about the future and many people spoke of how they must begin to do somethings different, if they want different results. This is not going to be an easy task. My plate is full and I am sure my butt will be dragging on more than one occasions. Many people were concerned on how I could handle both jobs, Avery and Crossnore. I am sure there will be moments but I think for now they can coexist, so that should not be a problem. God is good and still on His throne.

Wake up and a Wedding

Waking up this morning at the Airborne Inn at fort Bragg. We enjoyed a nice evening with Chad and Christian last night at Smokey bones with some ribs. Very nice. It looks like November the 14th will be the date for the wedding, somewehere in Jefferson SC. I believe Chad to be very happy and in love. Today we are taking Christian back to her house and then heading back to Waco to prepare for Monday's events.

Meetings and Marriage

Boy do I have some catching up to do. Our last week at Crossnore went tons better than our first. It makes me feel better for sure. We stayed there until Wednesday for an extra day of training. Today, we drove back to Newland and met with some pastors in the area and answered some questions. After that we drove the 1 1/2 hours back to Waco. Tonight we are resting and then tomorrow we are going to Fort Bragg to see Chad. I know, I've not mentioned it that he is back in the US now. It appears that they didn't need so many truck drivers in Afghan right now so they sent him home. We will stay there until Sunday and then head back to home here in Waco. On Monday we will head back to Newland where I will preach the annual sermon at the Avery baptist Association and later that night they will vote on me to be their next Director of Missions. Between Crossnore and the DOM job I will be a busy man. We will see how long I will have to do both.
Chad told us the other day that he is now engaged to be married and that was quite a shocker. Not sure if he is ready but that has never stopped many a couple. I doubt that we were ready over 26 years ago. Well that's about it for now.

Friday, September 25, 2009

Well I can say for sure that this week has been much better than the first. Everything is going much better and we are much more relaxed this week. I had a chance to meet the DOM that is leaving Avery Association yesterday. He really seems like a great guy and is focusing his attention on his verterans ministry. We met the secretary and was able to look at the apartment where we will winter. It's really small but it is also free. So, all in all its been a great week. This Saturday we are going to the ASU game in Boone. Great, it's gonna be reaining and a high of 58. We are sitting down at the coffee house on campus and taking advantage of an hour or two of down time. That's all for now....

Monday, September 21, 2009

Be Back

Well it's been a nice break. Tomorrow morning we will head back to Crossnore for another 7 day run. Because internet service is hard to get I probably will not be posting anything. So, unless something happens we will be back next Wednesday. For now it seems that we are picking things up in one place and moving it to another. I will be glad in a week or two when we have our schedule more straight. It won't be shotgun barrel straight but close enough.

Rally Bound

Hello to all my blogger buddies. We are off now from crossnore and looking forward to a few days off. We are headed to Denton NC for the Fall Campers on Mission Rally through sunday. This may be aour last camping trip for a while as we have to get ours in the shop pretty soon. Should have time to catch up with everyone soon.

Checking in again

At new home since last Thursday. Wow, what a change in our lives. Older teenage boys who hate their life, hate God and everything right now. This is a bigger challenge than I thought, but God will see us through. Back for a few more hours of training... and then we will be off for a few days. Need Prayer my friends

Sunday, September 13, 2009

Checking In....

Lord how our life had changed. We have no internet at our cottage, just eithernet or something. My Sprint card does not work so I slipped off to the coffee house. Things are so crazy right now. Our heads are spinning. There are hardly nothing here but teenagers and they all come with drama. After a few days things are starting to make sense somewhat. We covet your prayers and will check in again when I can.

Wednesday, September 09, 2009

Storming a bit....

Sitting here at the house in Waco this Wednesday morning listening to it storm. I've always liked storms. We will leave this morning sometime and head back up to Candlestick for the night. We report to our new job at Crossnore Thursday morning. TC and I re very excited about this new chapter in our lives. Heck I love change. Well Mom and Dad are off the Marion to the Tom Johnson Camping Rally so we are here by ourselves and that means coffee alone. Better get to some homework this morning.

Praying for my fine friend Sarge Charlie.

Up early doing school work. Looking at the 20 major doctrines of God found in Genesis, then writing an essay paper on one of them to finish Chapter one of the Mosaic Writings Class.......Lots of little to do things today!

Another Day?

Nice day yesterday, topped it off with coffee with Chad and Jill last night and a good story from Brian. Ate a poor man's supper from the Methodist Church here in Minniapolis. This morning we are taking a tour of every church in the association, all 23 of them with Brian and Chad. Very cool this morning but it feels great. Suppose to go home today but I think we are staying another day.

Monday, August 31, 2009

Sitting on the Porch

What a great couple of days at the Candlestick. Preached last night at Aaron Baptist Church and met 9 different pastors from the area. Very excited about becoming the Director of Mission in Avery County. Just chilling today, perhaps spend some time with Brian and Chad today. Things went great last night. I had just remembered how long it has been since I preached but it was OK. Not the best I've ever done, but I preached the truth. It was good meeting some new people and hearing their ideas about the future of the association. It's raining this morning but I am still enjoying my coffee out on the porch. Better run for now

Friday, August 28, 2009

Weekend plans

We went to the doctor this morning for our annual check ups and all went well. Got our preseciptions and all. Had a great lunch today at the Family Carry Out in Cherryville and then went and got some quotes for the RV repair. Although we can still use it we had gotten some hail damage earlier this month and the insurance is going to put a new roof on and a new awning. What a blessings, thanks Allstate. Sitting in Waco right now in the RV listening to it rain hoping the repairs I made hold up. Going to Candlestick tomorrow and staying until Monday(or so). Preaching at Aaron Baptist Church on Sunday evening at an association meeting.
That's about it.

Thursday, August 27, 2009

Out Of Here

Last wake up here at Collins. This morning we will leave after the boys go to school and make our way up to Waco NC. We have doctor appointments Friday morning and I think on Saturday we are going camping up to the mountains. This Sunday evening I will be preaching at Aaron Baptist church before the association. As long as I get myself out of the way and let God have control all will be fine and dandy. Taking it nice and slow today, no hurries. Oh yea, watched Texas beat NY in Little league world series on ESPN. I have become addicted to watching it. Thursday and Saturday are two more big days for the Texas team and the Georgia team from Warner Robbins. I love watching those guys play for the love of the game.

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Dragging but going to make it

Been busy all day. Picked up dryer, finished the grass and bought new box springs for the new house parents. It's been really nice getting to know these guys, too bad we don't get to work with them longer. I got the estimate form the insurance adjuster. Seems to be going our way. We have to wait for Allstate now to agree with the adjuster that they hired and we should be getting a new roof, awning and the repair work done inside as well. Still a lot of day left and we are dragging, off I go.

Monday, August 24, 2009

Good day today, grass cutting and stuff. Tomorrow we will pick up a new dryer donated by Jeff Lynch of Greenville SC. Two day and a wake up left

Sunday, August 23, 2009

Who Am I?

First morning waking up in the RV. Feels like we are camping even though we are still parked in the driveway. Taking the new couple to church this morning and then TC is cooking a big sunday lunch. Enjoyed the race last night, Mark Martin almost done it..... Here is a video I saw on another blog called Dust Bunny. It is awesome, check it out.....

Saturday, August 22, 2009

Moving out

We spent the last night here in our Collins home as the new Houseparents will be moving in this afternoon. We will be sleeping out in our RV which is parked right outside the garage. From now until Thursday AM we will training the new couple as they learn the area and all that goes with it. They really seem like a great couple with three kids. Christie and David are coming down today to visit and this afternoon is the annual barbecue fundraiser for Collins at Seneca High School. In a few hours we will tear down this computer and do one more quick cleaning of the apartment and move out.

Friday, August 21, 2009

Sleep, Study and Soothing Music

I become obsessed with songs and listen to them over and over and over and over. This is my latest, enjoy. The Insurance assessor or adjuster ad I call them because they adjust too much the wrong way, came by yesterday. Very nice guy and he could not get over how clean and nice the RV was even though it is 10 years old. I hope he takes that into consideration.
We had a bad storm last night and it sent us all to bed earlier. So, in the rack at 9:30, back out at 3:30. The coffee is hot and steaming and I am now working on my second class, "The Mosaic Writings". Just taking a break to post. Gotta run.....

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

My Update

  • I took the RV to a dealer for a quote on the roof and the awning that was damaged from a hail storm. $4700.00 would be the total cost. Wow, that's crazy. The adjuster should be by in the next few days. Hope all goes well with that.
  • The new House parents will be bringing in a load of stuff tomorrow of Friday. We have to be out by Saturday.
  • Talked to Chad again last night. The Styker brigade is now doing the gate guard so Chad has been moved one of the towers. I was talking to him when a vehicle was approaching so he had to go. There are alot more people where he is now and as I write this at 10:10 PM it is after 6:00 Am there, meaning it is election day in Afghanistan.
  • Calling it another day!

Tougher Than I Thought

Yesterday was spent cutting grass. I started early in the morning after returning from taking the boys to school. Everything was still so wet but the smell was awesome. I love cutting grass, its an obsession. Anyway, without planning on doing so I eventually cut all three yards, which is a considerable amount. TC and I both struggled yesterday. WE saw a little disrespect form a few of the older boys, but that was nipped. It's hard to clean an apartment, move out of it while you are still living there. The new Houseparents will starting Friday to move in so we have to have everything out by Friday in the AM. My buddy Nicky King recently started blogging so I have added him on my friends list to the right. WE went to Fruitland together and he was a big part of me making it through. It's called the preacher's blog. Another big day of moving stuff and cleaning while running around doing our job as well. This is tougher tham I thought.

Monday, August 17, 2009

The Speed is increasing

Today was the first day backk to school for the boys. It went pretty good. I took my final exam today for the class, "The Life of Christ". I think it went pretty good. Things here are going fast. The new Houseparents are wanting to start moving there things into the apartment this coming Friday. As long as the all the paperwork comes in I think it will be good. We are finishing up things here quickly. Just sat down adn read this post from my daughter on her writing blog. Take a peek here

Up pretty early this morning even for me, 4:00 AM...Tons to do. Data Entry, Register balance and prepare to turn in, First day of school etc. It's all good though....

Camping pics and Chad update

Here we are camping at Pleasant Ridge just outside Landrum SC. Nice little spot. Talked to Chad yesterday. He said that Wolverine is getting crowded. A Brigade of Styker tanks has arrived since he left for R&R. He said that things pretty quite since the locals are very intimated by these new tanks. Chad said that where he was at there is not a lot of business about the elections like it is elsewhere. He is glad to be back with his stuff...
Today, we are heading down the road to a great roadside park where the seimming is great in the river, then we will clean up and meet some friends for supper at FATZ Cafe before heading back to work.

Camping at Pleasant Ridge

We left Mom's today and traveled down to Pleasant Ridge County Campground. It's very nice and we got a great spot. We went swimming in the lake to cool off and now just chilling. This place has a great history. It use to be a park for Blacks when the white people went to a nearby state park. Can you believe that? After the parks were integrated folks stopped using this one so the state gave it to Greenville County. We will stay here until tomorrow and then head on down to the Kids Farm.

State Park, Baseball and Bedtime

Nice day at South Mountain State Park today. The water was cold but so refreshing. I never get tired of going there. Stopped off on the way back home at the Falston Stop and Shop for some good grub. Watched the braves play a little while eating some pop corn with Daddy. Finnally got my lights working on the tow car today too. Tomorrow we are heading out to go camping somewhere between here and there. It;s late and I'm going to bed.

Too many things happening today to concentrate on my final so, I have put that off until Monday. Starting our four days off this morning. It's very hard to take time off when there is so much to do. Kids are starting to come in and they need to be prepared for school on Monday, and we will not return until Sunday evening. Someone will do it I guess. We tried to get as much finished as possible so that is that. Going to switch everything back to NC today, spend some time with Mom and Dad and will probably head back out camping somewhere either Friday or Saturday.

Sickones and Studying

Lots of stuff going on around here. First, we have had a Swine flu scare from some kids who just came back from camp. We have one showing symptoms and has been confirmed to have Influenza type A but we will not know for sure about the other until Thursday. I hope they don't lock down our campus because our time off starts tomorrow. Anyway, lots of sick kids in this area right now. The staff is interviewing our replacements today and we will give them a tour of the house and meet some of the kids if that goes well. Today, I am studying for my final exam that I will take this afternoon. All for now......

A Goodbye to Dylan

Up to NC yesterday with a load of what I call non-essentials. TC and I differ on what is essential or not. A change of clothes, toothbrush and a razor is all I need. Heck, I don't even need the razor. Just kidding but, Beanie babies are not essential. The boys enjoyed themselves and it just kills me to see them call Mom and Dad, Nanny and Paw Paw. What a kick! Today we have a brunch for the three siblings that are being adopted. Their new family will be here later for us all to spend some time with. Many blessings abound around here.
This is cool. I got to looking at our tow car and found that it already has installed a electric hook up that will allow the RC to operate the lights that are on that car. Everything works and that is just nice. The extra storage alone is cool, but now we can be mobile when we are camped. Much to do here, I am going to finish my reading log today and then I will be ready for my final exam of my first class, "The Life of Christ". Finally!

Cool Pics

Just the way they say goodbye. That's David there our son in law.
This is chad saying goodbye to Christie after his R&R. Very cute picture
A Chap way to cool the boys off

Supper and some Skits

Yesterday we picked up Anthony from BLBC, the Beaverdam Baptist Association Children Camp. Last night we picked up the "Big A" from Camp Lions Dens at the Clemson Outdoor Lab. We are so grateful for the Lions Club making it possible for him to go. He loves it. Outback Steakhouse provided burgers and chicken, and the skits were awesome. It's so neat seeing those young people working as staff all summer and the impact they make on these kids life.

Packing up boxes of non essentials, my drum kit, and anything we can stuff into the back of the van. After tomorrow we will be limited to what will fit in the RV and tow vehicle......God has already brought a couple for final interview on Wednesday to replace us. Today is the big day that we tell the kids....

A Video of Chad

Taken when Chad came home for some R&R.

***I apologize about the facebook sign up but I have to control who sees this because it has some of the boys in our care. You have to be my friend on FB in order to see this.

Packing anf Praying

Yesterday we started packing all non-essentials into some boxes. It's crazy how much you can accumulate in such a short time. Going to take those to NC soon. Getting down to the minimum! I can let you know that I have recommended to be the Director of Missions for the Avery Baptist Association in Newland NC. I will be preaching before the churches on August 3oth at Aaron Baptist Church. We are excited at the doors God is opened up for us. It would take God opening the door for us to leave our boys here. In the meantime, God has set a couple in place for an interview and tour for our replacement next Wednseday. There is still more news to share later but no date has been set, although we have been offered the job at a local group home in that area, jst don't know the time frame on that yet. It will all be in God's perfect time.

Big News

It's official; our last day here at Collins Home is September 10th. Please be in prayer as we make this transition and for the couple that will be coming in to replace us. Also, pray for our boys as they transition too. God is doing a great thing and I will be able to share where we are going soon!

I wish I could share now but I cannot. We have had several interviews and all the right cards are in place, we just have to wait until everything is finalized.

SpongeBob does it again

Well our new boy is getting better with Benji. Not so much with Smudges. It's so funny to watch. This job can sometimes become so emotional. You see because of camp and visits, we are down to two boys until Friday. Our newest one found himself between halls and it just hit him that he was alone. What joy it is to comfort him but how sad to see a young man really felling alone in this world. A quick hug, so as not to make a big deal out of it, and a episode of Spongebob made him fell better much better.
Talked with Chad again last night, He is still waiting on a flight in Kuwait. Thought it was going to happen on Tuesday but it looks like Thursday, which is today. He is not happy with how long it takes in the Army to get somewhere or get something done. Go Figure!
In other news, there will be some drastic changes around here soon. Several people are leaving in the next few months and we will have more news to share at a better time.

Afraid of Dogs?

Well, our new boy came in and what do you know, he is afraid of dogs. We slowly let him meet them through the night and I hope that it goes better today. Having a luncheon for staff birthdays this week then back here to the house for some organizing.

Camping humor

This guy is too funny.

This is even funnier!!

Grass and the Petting Zoo

This was a big deal for him to even touch the animal. He's getting brave. This from a boy that a month ago he could not even stay outside for fear of bugs.
Just an ole pro at feeding the pony now.

Check out the tongue on that cow. You just drop the feed in and it retracts.

Note: Pictures taken from my cheap Sprint Cell phone.

Well I got half the grass cut yesterday. Beginning again this morning in about 10 minutes. Cool of the morning will be much better. TC got her license taken care of. Even the examiner said it was stupid for her to have to come in. On the bright side, we went right by Dillard Ga so we decided to stop and let the boys go tot he petting Zoo. They enjoyed it so much. The smell of Dillard's was almost too much for me to take. So close Sarge Charlie but not enough time. Anyway, we get a new boy today. Very excited!! His room is ready and we can't wait until we meet him. Chad should be back in Afghan by today or so. On Sunday he was in Kuwait and waiting on his flight, which should be today. I think he is ready to get back and get settled back into his routine. Gotta go the grass is waiting.

Welcome Home

Welcome home Mr. Speicher. We are glad that your final resting place is on the very ground that you were protecting. Kinda brings it all home!!!

Getting it Going on a Monday

Up and going. Much to do today. One boy to camp and one already there. TC and I have to run some errands and then it's back to cut grass on the entire campus. I guess I am the only one who knows how to operate a lawnmower. Right now we only have two boys and we are getting a new one on Tuesday. More chores than they are hours in the day, at least for a couple of days. Because the stats of North Carolina has idiots running their license offoce, we have to make a run to NC, just so TC can get a new copy of her license without bus endorsement or lose her license. Idiots. Go ahead, ask me how I really feel? Oh well, it's time to get started. Hopefully later in the week I can play with our new little toy.

Missing them already

Boy, it hit me this morning that we are losing so many of our boys. These little ones will forever be in my heart and while I am happy that they wither returned home or was adopted, our hearts hurt so much in them leaving. We are forever changed by them.

We got a Tow Car; Yippee

Left Hendersonville this morning and stopped by Anderson SC to look at and then to purchase this little gem of a tow car. IT is already set up to do so. We got a great deal on it from an elderly gentleman's son. He was 84 and could no longer drive it. A great deal considering it has an excellent Blue Ox tow bar already installed on it. Gonna pick it up tomorrow. Now we are at Chau Ram Campground in Westminster SC where we started our vacation. We had some fun in the river and it felt so good. Heading back to the Kids Farm tomorrow afternoon.

To the Mountains

Took off on Thursday to Hendersonville NC and we are camping at Rutledge lake Campground. It is very nice. Christie and David came over and we ate supper and went swimming. They took off this morning and we had eggs and liver mush(love it) and biscuits for breakfast topped with some Strawberry jam. Just sitting here watching some very expensive rigs pull out and thinking that they have to dump their sewer just like anyone else. We are going to stay here until Saturday and then possible go look at a tow vehicle in Anderson SC. Been wanting one and I found one on Craiglist that is already set up for pulling behind an RV. I also did some price checking on a new Rubber roof and a new awning. OUCH! Don't have to do it now but it won't be long. The sun is out and it's going to a nice day, rain or shine!

I smell Change

A big shout out to my niece Bethany for enjoying a few mornings of coffee on Mom's porch. Hope your side feels better. Went to bed at 10:00 last night and now it's 3:30 and I can't sleep. We took all of Chad's stuff to him yesterday and said our goodbyes. Not a perfect situation but none the less it is what it is. Chad lifts off at 13:00 today and headed back to Afghan for nine more months. Thanks to all of you guys out there for praying; it is a blessing.
Today we are headed for the mountains for a few days of camping before heading back to work on Sunday night. It's really going to be different as the twins have left and their beds will be empty when we return. We have another being adopted in a few weeks. Big changes at Collins. We are also getting a new boy next week as well. In fact we will get two more in the next week or so. Change is in the air and that is enough said.

Just Piddling

Been busy the last couple of days. Sunday, we went near Mt. Airy NC to see TC's sister Debbie and her new husband and home. Nice. Dude has a bunker and fallout shelter, stocked and armed. I know where I am going if necessary. Yesterday I spent the day trying to re-level the camper after the ground had sunken a bit so the big one is off just a little. Also had to do some plumbing, grass pulling and mowing, among several trips tot he hardware store. It was a good day, but boy is it hot around here. Looks to be cooling off a bit so that should help.
Chad is T minus 2 days on his return to Afghan, but he is still (we have no idea right now) with some buds doing whatever. Kinda upset with him right now because he has not called to let us know his plans or where he is at. This in itself is not too bad but taken his past it becomes quite disappointing and upsetting. Oh well, another day of piddling around the house, after morning coffee time with Mom.

Vacation starts; NOW

Thursday morning finds me waiting on our vacation to begin at 8:00 AM this morning. Because our week is 10 days, we get one week vacation (10 days) plus our regular four days on each side of that totaling 18 days. WOW. Anyway, Chad is with us and we are still making plans, and changing them, then making some more and then changing them. I say it doesn't really matter as long as I am off. I must make a quick trip to a urgent care to have my toe checked out this morning. It's swollen and red and hurts like you know what. Have no idea. Anywho, we are out of here- bye bye
