Back To School

Busy day for sure today. I started out after taking the boys to school working on the lawn mower, just like I did yesterday. By 8:15 had it going and cut the girls cottage grass seeing how they have no house dad at the moment. I then cut the office and went in to say that if I am going to have to cut all the grass, I need a new mower or some serious work done on this one. I hope to hear something soon as this one will probably not make another week without going into the shop. TC and i sent our application off today to Bethany Divinity College. I am going to finish my BA in Ministry with a concentration in Missions. TC is going to start working on Her Master of Arts in Ministry with a concentration in Christan Education. After that we hit the Super Buffet and came back home. This evening our support staff went with the younger boys with a group that is buying all the kids a new Easter outfit. Meanwhile, I took the older boys out for pizza. Time for me to drag my butt to bed.

Pine Derby Pics

Anthony(Right) setting up his car to race.
This is our little Pack 24 watching as the rest of the boys race. Me and Anthony is sitting in the middle waiting his turn. We only had one boy remain in scouts, mainly because the smaller ones require more time than we have for all of them. Another reason is that this pack is mostly unorganized and frustrating. This seemed to magnify greatly when you had 5 boys there. We thought that we could do the boys much more justice here at home.
Great Martensville race today and the Tarheels won. Told ya Dub that OK was going down.

A few Pics

On The Way home

Recently we found out that two of our boys who were going home in June are now being put on hold. They are our twins and they seem OK with it. I know they would rather be with Mom, but we feel this is best for the time being. Only one we know of is going home and in that story there is sadness, but regardless of the condition these boys just want to go home. Just the thought of this brings an old man to tears. We have two others that their lives are going to probably change in the next week or so. The news they will be receiving is probably not what they want to hear. There time with us is not over as they were promised again and again, so it is time to let them know. Both TC and I come from very loving homes where we always received love and we had the honor to raise two good kids who are grown and making their lives count for something bigger than themselves. One in the Army protecting us from our enemies, and the other serving on the forefront of ministry to our future generation. Our wish is that all of these boys will find a home that welcomes them with love unconditionally, although at times it seems that will not happen in some situations. We will stay and do our part in making that happen right here.
This life is difficult but rewarding and it makes me think that one day we will arrive at our final destination at a place called heaven, our home. What a glorious thought that we will live an eternity at such a place because of the grace of our Father through Jesus our Lord. In the time between then and now, we have such great opportunity to serve Christ, as we are on our way home.

Back to Work and Sinus infections

Started our break and went home just to get a sinus infections which is like getting the Flu. Felt a little better today but now I am grinding to a halt. We came back to Collins so we can trade off next Sunday with our Relief worker. Next Sunday all of the family has a chance to come by and see chad before he deploys. I do hope all can make it as I am sure it will make Chad happy. I'm retiring for the night.

National Guard

I had to post this as well. While I have no desire to like or promote Kid Rock, it's still a great video, which reminds everyone how cool the National Guard is.

Some Great Days

The last few days have been crazy. We are coming up to our break again and we can tell it too. Sunday was very restful but of course we were sore as heck, but not those boys. They seem to never run out of energy. Monday they were off from school and both cottages went on a picnic to High Falls Park, which was a lot of fun. Tuesday came with a vengeance and TC and I had planned a picnic ourselves, with the dogs, but instead we ate in the car and ran around doing errands. Last night some retired men and two ladies took the four oldest boys to Anderson for Easter clothes shopping. I was not sure how that might go but it turned out great. The boys were so pumped that they bought them some cool clothes and took them to Ryan's. What's amazing that one was a retired General and one was a retired Master Chief, and Jared was just amazed at them and their humor. Also, I took Anthony to his Scout Pinewood Derby last night. He worked hard on his car and made all kinds of last minute preparations, but in the end he came up short. On the last race his car jumped the track and hit the side bending his axle. His night was over and I told him just like a good Nascar fan, "That's just racing boys". Will have pictures later in the day.

I'm Tired

Back from hiking and the trip was worth it. It was about 3 miles over all but the waterfall was worth seeing. We even found a cave to get into and the boys loved it. Of course I am now sore as you know what and I don't look forward to the morning. First hike of the season.
Lois, get you a gun and ammo before they take away your rights.
Sarge, dude I was so moved by your comment and the post. I have already printed it off and will find the right time to let J read it. I think of your son often and pray for his recovery too. You and Miss Bee are very special to TC and I. It's getting warmer up here, hope to see ya soon.

Hikes, Sleep and Disappointment

Looking Back- A day back on the road and we were chilling out beside the Truckee River California/Neveda border. Man that was nice.

Saturday morning and I actually slept until 6:15. I think that is the latest I have slept in a long time. Anyway, we are taking the boys up to Yellow Branch picnic area and walk the mile or so to the waterfall. It's only a few miles from us but it is one that we have seen yet. The boys seem to be looking forward to that. Originally we were going to go camping with the cub scouts, but that fell apart quickly. Our hearts are heavy the last day or so over one specific child. Let me tell you just a bit about him. His Dad is in Prison, his mother id addicted to drugs, has no job but has money. She use to be a "dancer" but according to a source has lost what it took to do that. The word is that she turns tricks, but I don't know. It's just sad because this young man who is 13 now was brought here 4 years ago for "a few weeks". I cannot tell you the disappointment that he had faced but he just does not know how to handle it. Pray for "J"; unless something changes soon I am afraid the wrong road awaits him. Kids here at the Kid Ranch over 12 must be in cooperation with the house rules or they cannot stay based on what we are staffed for and the general rule. Update on the twins tomorrow.
CHAD UPDATE- He still does not know his leave dates yet, but he has now re-qualified on his M-4 and become more comfortable firing a fully auto weapon. I believe as a driver he may be issued a side arm as well.

Roads to Travel

Here are the boys along with two boxes of clothes hangers that were donated by my sister Cathy's WMU group at Shady Brook Baptist Church in Charlotte NC.
Deputy Barney from Mayberry said one time, "During our lifetime we will travel many roads". That sure feels like it is true. One of the roads I am on now is trying to figure out if I want to start the journey of furthering my education. I know it can't hurt, but I want to be sure it is what I am suppose to do. The first question is this, Do I need it? I think that anything that I would do in the future would probably not require more than the education degree that I already have, so what would be the point? I guess that can only be answered with a question, What if? Or better yet, Why not? Too much thinking at 05:00 in the morning. Well, its Friday so that means three boys are gong home today, which leaves us five for the weekend.
Been a weird last few days, the moon must be full or something. Boys misbehaving and other stuff. Looking for a good weekend.

Sleep

Wednesday morning brings our monthly full staff meeting with everyone then it's off to just the child workers staff until noon. Then, based on the amount of sleep or lack thereof last night it will a quick lunch and a longer nap before the kids get home. That is all....

Lightbulbs and other stuff

It's Monday back on the Kid Ranch. Boy is it ever, back for a day and I need a break already. We had an all morning meeting and when I say we, I mean me. Sorry babe, had to let it out but I am glad you got rest. I will not bore you with all the details but there was a lot of running around getting light bulbs, changing bathroom bulbs, carrying donated food, washing dishes after TC cooked Spaghetti. The boys are playing in the living room and I'm getting caught up on the computer and spread sheets. PAUSE... TC fell over in a chair but she is OK and I had to break up a fight over video games, not an actual fight. One boy talked his guardian in staying home and his brother had a fit so now he is going back home. One of the problems around families is that paretns are sometmes wimps and give in to the kids too much. I guess tomorrow will be for cleaning the camper up, I hope. All for now.......

Free food and Drink

I am starting to feel a little less tired today. Although they are calling for rain this weekend, it's gonna be nice being around both chad and Christie and David. Last night we went to the deployment briefing. We saw pictures of where Chad's base will be, although right now it is not built, and lots of people talking. Found out some good information. The Army is really trying to be informative to the families. Met some of Chad's friends last night and then we went to KFC and took Chad home. We have spent the night in the PX parking lot and after while we will move over to Smith Lake Campground. Christie and David should be here around noon. Chad is on the range this morning firing and playing with the 50 cal. and should get off early today. Tonight, we are going to the deployment party where they are having a concert and cookout for his unit. That's all...

Lord, Help Us

Wednesday was just like most of this week, busy as all and wide open. I am physically exhausted as some you may know I rise and shine between 4:30-5:00 AM and I got to bed around 10:30PM, with most of the time a wake up in between. The best part of my sleep comes within the first minute of going to bed; cause I fall to sleep so fast it really makes TC mad. From that schedule, throwing in sick kids, kids with teeth issues(TC made the trek to Anderson-Twice) kids with attitudes(11 and going on 25), one kid deciding to steal banana's, another kid deciding to pee in the trash can instead of the toilet and the cleaning lady finding it, to the natural fights arguments that most sibling like residents have, we are wore out. Yesterday I could hardly remember the kids names, I just yelled "hey you" and whoever turned around I gave them a job to do. We decided not to go to church because I just couldn't deal with it at the time. Too much to accomplish and bath time after Church is tough, so we skipped and let the kids play. Last day of good weather for a while. Well, I better go and start packing the camper, no it's not ready right now, so we are so gar behind.
Tonight we are going to the Family Deployment Readiness meeting, which we hope will answer some of our questions. We'll see!

You gotta love it.....

In preperation for our upcoming spring break camping trip we set up a tent in the living room. It was just fun. Benji likes it.
Our last Upward Basketball game. While I was not coaching this year I was a referee. I believe that it was more fun than last year.
During a recent fundraiser, we had a cake auction. The home made over $500.00 just in this cake auction. Bounty Land Baptist Church allowed us to use their facility.
With Spring time coming I have spent several days trimming back some bushes and trees beside the house.

The last few days have been incredibly busy. Yesterday we had dental appointments and doctor visits. Today it's one out sick and one going back to the dentist along with our cottage monthly meeting this morning. Thursday cannot come quick enough for me. That's all....

Commander In Chief

Saw this one over at Flag Gazer's site. My feelings as well. The military knew that W was on their side!

Power To The People

Boy, was yesterday tough. From 8:50 until 1:30 I was at the gym. Was back at the church by 3:30 and with a short break was there until we finished around 7:30 or so. The boys did great during their little song and the girls cottage did great to. The Zion group was really good. I am not sure how much they raised last night but they did OK I think. Tough times for a lot of people. We wanted to take the kids to Disney World this year but that idea was rejected by the board. They said it was not presenting a good image to the community at large as they were really trying to get folks to donate. (Wade don't think so, but that really doesn't matter or does it. Wade accepts it but will not remain quiet about it. ) Instead, we are taking them back to the beach again, which is fun too and probably a whole lot easier on us. Well that's all for now. church this morning and probably some outside time today, it's gorgeous here right now!

Busy Busy

Ah, the last week of Upward Basketball. While I love it I get so happy when it is over. In other words, our Friday nights and Saturday mornings return to us. It's that time for planning camping trips and hikes and such. I tried to sleep later this morning but I couldn't, 4:15AM is the norm. I will have from around 12:30 until 1:30 to try and grab a quick nap, as he rest of the afternoon will be for the fundraiser. That's about all, it's gonna be a busy one today.

Chad's Unit

Mission

On order, 2-82 Aviation Regiment "Corsairs" conduct strategic deployments within 18 hours notification and provides air assault, combat support, and combat service support to the Combat Aviation Brigade in support of the 82nd Airborne Division.

Well Chad was hoping to get a specific time off before deployment, but as usual the Army cannot say currently when that might be. Looks like he will get his two weeks or at least 10 days, probably around the end of March on into April. Mom, sorry just can't give a date yet for a cook out. Hoping to find out today. Found this on Chad's unit website, Pretty cool.

Pizza, Hotdogs and Gospel Music

What a great day this has been. Trimmed some hedges and trees earlier in the day and we had tons of help tonight. Three great tutors along with TC and I and Lauren. All the boys were loving it as they had plenty of folks to play with. I decided to get pizza, so of course they loved that. Did some talking to some schools today as I have thought about going back to school but I have not made up my mind. Kinda waiting on the Lord for that one. The weekend is gong to be so busy, we have our last basketball games of the season Saturday morning as I will be refereeing them while TC watches those who are not playing and then Collins is having a hot dog supper and gospel singing for a fundraiser. I think it's gonna be a long day. TC will be leading the boys in a routine along with a song. She always has them prepared and it's always good. The boys are looking forward to it, at least most of them are. That's about all there is for now here at the "youngun" ranch.

Very Cute

We just learned recently that these two will be going home after June 3rd when school lets out. It's good but it will be hard on us as they leave. On a more positiver note, we also found out that we will be getting a 14 day straight vacation in June, so our minds are already spinning on what direction we will go. We are not supposed to post pictures of these kids because of DSS rules, but since eveything is working out with Mom, I figured what the heck. Cute, are they not?

Back Again

Here are a few pics from our recent trip to see Chad. Above is TC cooking our traditional camping meal, steak and chicken; except it all had to be done on the inside because of the relentless rain. Below is Chad walking through the food court at the main PX and one of Chad looking at a Statue we observed.

Getting home was very interesting, in the snow with a 12,500 pound RV. We made it back so today we have been catching up on paperwork, washing clothes and tonight we had a birthday party for Jake and Drake, our twins who turned 7. We had a good time with Chad but it rained the whole time we were there. In fact it rained until it snowed. All is good here..........
