A great Weekend

What a great time down in Waco. I can't believe my youngest child is 21. After a few days in Waco we took Chad back to fort Bragg where he and Christian, will probably get married at the justice of the peace sometime next week. They said they will have a ceremony come spring. Tc and i drove back to the mountains in the RV and was going to stay around Wilkesboro or Boone, but decided to brave the fog and come on into Newland. Tonight we are attending our churches fundraiser dinner and Trunk and Treat. The weather is not so great today, but maybe a few will brave the wind and rain. Tomorrow I am preaching at Beech Mountain baptist Church and then we are going to get our key to our new rented home. There a little something about giving them a check too. I guess we will take what we have up here now over to the house on Monday. Tuesday, we go back to Crossnore, where we will be greeted by a lot of change. They have changed our cottage from an all boys cottage to an all girls cottage. We are happy about that change as it will be better for TC come January. God is still blessings....

A One Year Lease

Off from Crossnore this morning and working at the office the rest of the day. I had a great meeting today with our moderator and this afternoon TC and I agreed to a one year lease on a nice little cottage in Elk Park. Just 20 feet or so out the back is a little creek that runs fast and loud. This place has a little foot bridge and an outside cooking stove next to the creek. I'll be making me some biscuits in our dutch oven for sure. Back at the office tonight in the apartment and working here tomorrow. We will probably head to Waco late Wednesday. Our son chad turns 21 on Thursday so we are heading down to spend some time with him. That's about all....

A Quickie

Busy trying to fit a few hours at the office this morning. This is tougher than I thought but it looks like I will have to make it work until the end of the year. We will see how we can change things come January. Not much time to post or read so I will keep it short today.

A Church Family

Well lets come down off our soapbox a spell. I reckon I was just venting. Anyway, Saturday was so good as we met Christie and David in black Mountain. They were having some sort of a festival, so after eating at a German Restaurant we walked around, did a little shopping and a lot of talking. Back to the office last night where we are staying for a few weeks. The apartment is small but it works. We have the RV plugged up outside so it works for us right now. This morning we went to Minneapolis Baptist Church where we joined the church because we love spending time with those folks. I love Preacher Brian's preaching too. We needed a place to relax and call home even if we won't be there too often. As Director of Missions for Avery Baptist Association, I have 23 churches to attend at least twice a year. That is my goal anyway. Pastor Brian asked me back tonight to preach so I guess I know where we are going tonight. One more day tomorrow in the office and then we must head back to Crossnore. All for now....

The Ole Sarge and my Rant

I think that everyone should read the ole Sarge's blog. How can this information be there and we not follow the opinion of a patriot. I think that this is the difference between the America victorious and America defeated, "Enough warriors ready to follow a real patriot into victory" As in the past, the politicians have screwed it up again and again and again. Perhaps we should remember our oath that we are to protect this country against the enemy, both foreign and domestic. I Swear I am sick to death of these politicians thinking they can have their way. Al Gore has made millions off the scare tactic and of course off the idiots that believe him(perhaps he deserves that money from them). Regardless, the older I get the more I assume and agree that I am part of a regular crowd that gets it. I have met this regular crowd, a group of people who pay their bills, raise their families and work hard everyday. I am proud to be a regular person, and for all you freaks out there, just go cash our government check and go to the mall. There is where all your friends are at......

We went to Johnson City Tenn. tonight and got TC her birthday gifts, clothes and a new hair-do. A cut and color if you will. All is well. It's getting cold out and tonight the weather is just nasty, cold and rainy. Going to watch a civil war movie tonight and meet christie tomorrow.

Finnally made it back to Newland with the RV. A little bit aggrivated because I can't put it where I want to because of the ground being so wet. I guess I will live. I already have one pastor to ask me come to his church and meet his people and preach, Beech Mountain Baptist Church. Directions: Go to the top of the world and down the other side about a mile. Boy, they are actually calling for a inch of snow come Sturday evening, we'll see. Catch up more later.

Monday, October 12, 2009

Well we are coming down to our last day this shift. Tomorrow we should be picking up our RV with a new roof and awning. We should be able to stay at home in Waco for a day or so and then we will come back up here. Things at Crossnore are still taxing but we are making it. We have four boys now from age 14-17. WOW, yea that's right. It's like having chad all over again. Working a few hours here in the office and then it's back for some eye exams for the boys and some dentist visits. All is well! Thanks Mom for watching the dogs and taking Benji for his hair cut.

A New Direction

It's official, I have been voted in the new Director of Missions as of last night. The night went so well, even though as we got to the church my shoes became totally useless as the soles literally began to fall off. I mean, deteriorated right in front of my eyes. I had never seen it before, perhaps I had stepped in some sort of solvent or something, not sure. Anyway, after having a cow, we decided to run to crossnore where I had another pair, so everything worked out well. I really had great liberty to preach and the questions and answer time was intense but very good. Everyone was upbeat about the future and many people spoke of how they must begin to do somethings different, if they want different results. This is not going to be an easy task. My plate is full and I am sure my butt will be dragging on more than one occasions. Many people were concerned on how I could handle both jobs, Avery and Crossnore. I am sure there will be moments but I think for now they can coexist, so that should not be a problem. God is good and still on His throne.

Wake up and a Wedding

Waking up this morning at the Airborne Inn at fort Bragg. We enjoyed a nice evening with Chad and Christian last night at Smokey bones with some ribs. Very nice. It looks like November the 14th will be the date for the wedding, somewehere in Jefferson SC. I believe Chad to be very happy and in love. Today we are taking Christian back to her house and then heading back to Waco to prepare for Monday's events.

From our back porch we have a view of the chapel, the post office and the DAR cabin.

Same shot but from sitting in our chairs. What a nice view, the birds are singing and the chapel bell is ringing....

Meetings and Marriage

Boy do I have some catching up to do. Our last week at Crossnore went tons better than our first. It makes me feel better for sure. We stayed there until Wednesday for an extra day of training. Today, we drove back to Newland and met with some pastors in the area and answered some questions. After that we drove the 1 1/2 hours back to Waco. Tonight we are resting and then tomorrow we are going to Fort Bragg to see Chad. I know, I've not mentioned it that he is back in the US now. It appears that they didn't need so many truck drivers in Afghan right now so they sent him home. We will stay there until Sunday and then head back to home here in Waco. On Monday we will head back to Newland where I will preach the annual sermon at the Avery baptist Association and later that night they will vote on me to be their next Director of Missions. Between Crossnore and the DOM job I will be a busy man. We will see how long I will have to do both.
Chad told us the other day that he is now engaged to be married and that was quite a shocker. Not sure if he is ready but that has never stopped many a couple. I doubt that we were ready over 26 years ago. Well that's about it for now.
