God, our Sustainer

What a fun filled week. Filled with work and joy. More meetings this week, but I am enjoying getting to know people at our new church. It was another great Sunday at church. TC and i went driving or as we like to say exploring. For me Sunday night was late as the race in Charlotte was not disappointing. Memorial day we went to see Mom and Dad and we got to see John. Here are a few pics of that

I had my Pre-Op again at the Va and I am scheduled for my knee surgery now on June 10th. Trying to end in Avery County while starting here in Ashe had had its complications but overall it has gone well. With Avery ending I will see a new chapter completely open up here in Ashe. I serve a BIG God and He will settle and sustain us in our times of need. Amen.......

Character Matters

What a fantastic day. It started with the Blue Ridge Elementary Character breakfast which Warrensville hosts and other churches sponsors. The kids from each class earn the award from the character trait of that month. It was good to see the smiling kids.
TC and I worked on my office just a little bit, then we headed to Spruce Pine where we said goodbye to someone very special to us. All for now about that.

Then on to a nice dinner and the special called meeting for the Avery Association. We prayed, there was special music, I spoke and then Garland, the new DOM spoke. It was very enjoyable and then we enjoyed a great fellowship afterwards provided by Oak Grove Baptist Church.

I am so thankful for the ministry we had there. Now a new door of ministry at Warrensville has opened and we are super excited about that. God id good, indeed He is good!

Sundays and Service

Sunday was great. the service was uplifting and inspiring. Afterwards we went to Ebeneezer Christian children's home and had a service and a meal provided by the Brotherhood. Later I went on a visit with our Deacon chairman. With this infection or whatever I have I am really dragging this morning, but we will make it. This morning is the the breakfast for the Blue ridge Elementary School kids, some office work and then we are off to Spruce Pine to finish staining the house(like 30 minutes of work) change our mail and meet our son to have a short visit with him. More on that later. Two cups of coffee down and it's time to get the day started.
Here are a couple of pics from the kids home.

Running Wide Open

Well this week has seen us getting settled into our new home. Things are looking great but it seems that because I am trying to finish well in Avery and begin great in Ashe, i have very little time. I am not complaining though, it may be a whirlwind but I am having a great time. Every time I sit down to write it seems I have very little time. Today, Sunday is not exception. I hope to post some pics soon. Gotta run, all for now........

Happy Mother's Day

I am so thankful to my wonderful Mom for all the love she has for me. Every time i needed her as a child or as an adult she has been there for me. I love you Mom!

Unpacking Day

Wow, we rolled up at Warrensville Saturday and a crowd was waiting. Everyone has worked so hard to get the house ready and it was amazing to see all the help. It made it so easy and fast. In just a few hours everything was unloaded and placed in its resting place. Here are some pics from that

As I said earlier, we finished the house and here are some almost finished pics.

Today, we will rest a while, visit Mom and then head back to Warrensville to finish unpacking.

Packing Day

Well now, the house is finished  the U-haul is packed and the appraisal is complete. My friend Keith Buchanan and Bobby came yesterday to help load the truck. Bobby is a professional packer, really. Keith and Bobby do this everyday and Bobby really knows how to pack stuff tight. We rented a 26 foot truck and it is full front to back, top to bottom.
After we finished, the appraisal man came and now that is over with. Soon, if all goes well we can refinance out house with an awesome lower rate and for 10 years.
Today, we will head to Warrensville and unload with the help of some nice folks there. I know several people have worked hard on getting the parsonage in tip top shape and we are excited to see it. I am even more excited to get started at the church. With the work on the house and the move yesterday my knee is hurting pretty bad but hopefully it will settle down after today. The VA has set June 10th as my new date for surgery. Gotta take it as it comes sometime. A short post as it is back to work this morning.

Meeting and Missions

Wednesday started with sunshine and I worked on the house all day. Steve came and helped me and things went well. It rained here and there but not too bad. I had to quit at 4:30 to get ready for church and a meeting. I attended a Deep Impact meeting for Avery County then led prayer service at Crossnore First Baptist and introduced our Deep Impact coordinator. Looking forward to DI again this year June 17-22. Although I will be at our new ministry, I have committed to returning as much as possible and helping. It is an awesome time. So, today I am waiting for the sun to finish a few more boards and then begin spraying stain, while TC completes the packing inside. Even though I have been working on the outside, TC has done all the packing and she is dong a great job. Off to make another day.

Finishing

Wednesday morning and I am preparing to try and work on the siding. Here is what I have so far:

This is what has stopped us the last week or so, ot at least the result of all the rain. This is the small creek behind our house.

Anyway, this is what we are gong for. Here is a pic of the back that is finished.

So, the sun is hiding behind the clouds and hopefully will shine soon. I must head to the local hardware store for more supplies. Hopefully, I can be done by early afternoon as I have Deep Impact meeting this afternoon. I am glad that I got a lot of work done yesterday at the office. So much to do, so little time. Monday, we signed the refinance papers, so we are waiting on the appraisal to call. To get this done next week would be good. We will see.........

Banks and Boards

So, we were going to take advantage of lower rates and refinance the home loan. The State Employees Credit Union was happy to help, so we started the process. It was in the signing of the papers that put us in a head spin. Because I had started putting siding on the house it was considered a construction project, and the house could not be appraised, nor financed unless it was finished. So, we got with it. My buddy Matt helped do the back and he brought a friend to help on the side. Rain was not our friend. So, this morning it is day 3 and I hope to pretty far.

This morning I have been working on some sermons. Tomorrow I will be preaching 2 times at Oak Grove. It is stressful timing  because of so much we are missing out some things I would like to do. I had to miss the Board of Directors meeting for Blue Ridge Values Coalition and will miss a planned even tomorrow. You can't do everything, that is for sure. Sometimes I think I have bit off more than I can chew, but our God is faithful and I must remind myself of that right now. You know, we are moving next Friday, I have siding to finish to refinance  I have several meeting next week, and need to start packing. Yes it is a lot I will not lie. TC and I need prayers, that is a fact Jack!

So, this morning I will start on the siding again. I worked until 7:00 PM last night, so here we go again.

Fun, Fundraising and Siding

Day of Prayer was awesome. It was attended by a few but it was great to see many pastors praying for unity. Afterwards, we ran to the golf tourney for a fundraiser for the Pregnancy Center. The day was cold and foggy but we made it. Here are a few pics from that...
TC enjoying our box lunch

Tee of the 9th hole. this was the hole in one $10,000 shot.

It was cold and some folks brought TC a quilt.

Teeing off
Afterwards, about 2:30 PM we ran back to the house where some guys was working on the lower side of the house. Here is partially finished...

So, today I am working with just one of the guys as we finish this side and then ,move to the front. We were just trying to do this a little at a time, but we are refinancing the house and it must be finished before the appraisal is done. While I am doing this, TC is starting the process of planning the packing. Yes, again we shall start packing boxes. God willing, this will be our last move for a long long time.
I must admit that i was disappointed and relived when the VA postponed my knee surgery. I have so much to do, so that part is good. the bad part, in doing what I must do(on my knees sometimes putting up siding) I felt something move inside and it is sore this morning. Hopefully, it will not be like last time. all for now.....

National Day of Prayer

Today at Newland's First Baptist Church

Preparing to Pack

The Process of moving. YUCK. Why is it that I hate doing something we have had to do quite a bit. Well, first let me mention that when we left South Mountain I had to get a storage unit to put all the extra furniture in. So, now we have our house in Spruce Pine and the storage unit. That should be enough to fill the parsonage. As I write this the folks at Warrensville are preparing the house. New pain, some flooring and other small repairs are being done. So, now we are preparing to box up again and move to Warrensville. My friend Keith who owns a moving company is going to help me on Friday and then the church will try to have some folks help on that Saturday we move. It is a blessing to have friends!!!!! Of course there are many thing to do so, it may take time but we will get it done.

A Call to Pastor

Now, to begin to catch up. We have to go back a couple of months when God began a process that would put into play a major shift in our lives. God connected me with the pulpit committee of the Warrensville Baptist Church. At that moment I felt something leap inside me, but I had to contain that. After talking with TC in depth, we divided to take a leap of faith and began the process of submitting my resume. After meetings, background checks, and an in depth research from the committee, they felt lead of God to recommend me as their new pastor. On April 21st and 28th, I preached at the church and on the 28th, the church voted and extended to me a call to become their new pastor, and of course we accepted. We are super excited to begin this journey. it is going to be exciting. So many things I want to share, but i will have to write those a little at a time. The process is huge for us and there is much to do. Many detail involved in moving as well. I will post updates as we go along.
