Parks and Projects

We went to the Riverside Park for just a little while today. We also spent some time at the antique stores in Spruce Pine.

On Sunday we visited Liberty Hill BC, which is in sight of our home. We really liked it, although the pastor was away on vacation. We will go back in a few weeks!

Sunday Dinner!!!!

Sunday afternoon we went to Lowes to obtain material for the floor. $1500 bucks for the material alone. Whoops, I forgot barrier paper, so hopefully Grassy Creek has that.

It's Monday, and off I go for my regular 24 hour shift!!

The Hall and the breaker box

So, the ugly breaker box was just there. What to do? I had in my mind what I wanted to do, and that was a barn like door, however, when I began this project, it just didn't come together, so this is what happened. It turned out pretty good and works great...

The Flaming Bush and the Porch

The flaming Bush- For 9 years we had 2 of them at Warrensville. It was always so cool to see them like this. This little bush got its start closer to the driveway, but when we bought this place in 2010, I moved it to the creek bank and it has done so well.

On this day, I was just sitting on the front porch and realized all the flowers that TC had worked with to get the porch so nice.

The Fall

So, it has been long enough now since this call for me to talk about it a little bit. We were dispatched to a fall, which dispatch advised the fall was as high as possibly 90 ft. Of course my first thoughts were no one's going to survive that. Later they come back and said about 30 ft. Not knowing to us the person that fell was actually trespassing on mine property
We arrived on scene to find that the hiker had been able to call a neighbor, and they had driven their side by side up to the hiker. They came back down to as far as we could get our ambulance. At that point we downloaded all the equipment that we felt that we would need, loaded it on the side by side and up the mountain we go. Trust me it was not a smooth ride. When we went as far as we could go, me and my partner along with the first responder and the driver of the side-by-side grabbed all of our equipment and hiked approximately 100 yards straight up the mountain, over rocks and through trees. We found the patient lying on their back and we began assessment. There were some obvious wounds, but the most pressing one was the decreased lung sounds on the left side and the patient was struggling to breathe and was very hypotensive. In addition to other bottles we knew the patient was going in the shop and probably had a pneumothorax on that left side. I won't go into every detail, but let's just say this was what we call my first field dart. Medical terms would call this a needle decompression. To give you a picture, I basically stuck a three and a quarter inch needle in her left side in the fourth intercostal space where it penetrated the plural space, allowing the air to escape and the lung to fill with oxygen and immediately the patient was able to breathe much better. To make a long story short it took a lot of volunteers to cut trees and equipment was used to get the patient back down the mountain and to the LZ where she was flown out to a higher care hospital. This was a pretty intense call, and when it was all said and done both myself and my partner did a complete job. My partner was a basic so it would have been nice to have another paramedic there but all turned out well

Debbie Sue Wedding

Today was TC's sister Debbie Sue wedding. TC was sick and could not attend, but I had to go. Here is why- The state of NC requires an ordained minister or a magistrate to perform weddings. So, officially, I was the officiant, but I allowed my nephew to perform the vows and ceremony. This is legal only if I am present. Everything went well, but I was glad to be back home. Congrats to Debbie Sue and Jerry and I really mean that, but, it also breaks my heart that her and Randy divorced. My relationship with TC began with Randy and Debbie. Without them, a double date would not have happened. Randy is now home with the Lord, which is hard to believe, but in it all, it is sad but life goes on.

Sick and Soothing

So, back home from final beach trip, get everything unloaded, TC starts to wash all the bed clothes and I start cutting the grass. My allergies were acting up then. That night, I went to work and worked a PM shift and of course had a late call. * This treatment was a 15 month old pedi patient with RSV. Monitoring the patient, I spent most of my time playing peek a boo. By the time I got home, I was feeling rough. I got a negative on a Covid Test that I took, but figured it was  a sinus infection. This ensued a 2 day sickness that took me out. I missed my day shift on Thursday and my normal 24 hours shift on Friday. Feeling better now, but TC is sick now.

TC had an appt in Asheville on Friday, so I drove her there and on the way home took some back roads and came across the cascading waterfall. Soothing to the soul for sure.

Final Beach Trip for 2022

We were so blessed to be able to go to Lakewood four times this year. Another bonus was that Chad and Samme was also able to come.

Football Friday Night

This past Friday night I did the standby for Mitchell High School. It was a good night and I enjoyed it. Pictured below is me and my comrade, Daniel Davis, who is the Chief of a local Fire Dept here in Mitchell county, and of course our Director Mr. Bryan Reid.

Standing in the end zone proved to be good seats.

Decompression and Hikers

What a great shot of the rainbow

Co-worker jamming at work

Accident victim who had a "Service Animal". JCMC allowed dog to come with us and she was the sweetest dog ever.

Tough shift today... 1.) Hiker fell anywhere from 30 to 90 feet. She was pretty banged up. This was my first "dart" or  pleural needle decompression. PT was having a hard time breathing and this procedure did the trick. Later a Cardiac Arrest assist, and I sit here now at 6:30 AM waiting to leave shift without another calls. I am tired!!!
