God is My Refuge and Strength

Psalms 46:10

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Psalms 46:1- I started with Verse 10 with the thought that I needed a "pick me up" this morning. I read a devotion from Focus on The Family, that stated that we should love God for who He is, not just what He can do for us. That resonated in my soul. I began to ponder...

In the opening of that chapter, we begin reading in V. 1 To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. A Song for Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.

G. Campbell Morgan says this; “Comment on this great song of confidence seems almost unnecessary so powerfully has it taken hold on the heart of humanity, and so perfectly does it set forth the experience of trusting souls in all ages and tumultuous times.” (G. Campbell Morgan)

It's like this was my first thought, "What is the deal with this opening. Who is the sons of Korah and this Alamoth person? I found this answer from David Guzik on BLB.com These sons of Korah were Levites, from the family of Kohath. By David’s time it seems they served in the musical aspect of the temple worship (2 Chronicles 20:19).

It is also stated that Alamoth could mean that it is a choir of singing girls, or a high pitched instrument. Either way, what spoke to me is this...

Let's start with Praise. Before I consider my thoughts, my needs, my issues, my problems, let me, and you focus on those words beginning with V. 1
1. God is our Shelter- He is our refuge, meaning shelter, from EVERYTHING! No need to mention any of my issues, let me just focus on that; He is my Shelter. Let me just step under this shelter.
* There are a lot of examples, but what comes to my mind is this; When we are camping and it is raining, I love to stand or sit under our awning. The rain comes, and we are not wet. We see the rain drip off the edges, but we are dry.
Before I consider our issues, just consider that. God is our Shelter!

2. God is our Strength- It means just what it says. Let's start with that. He is our STRENGTH. It really does not matter what we are facing, He is Stronger. Remember, this- I John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
* This word for strength carries the idea of Absolute.
* That is a strong word.
3. A Very Present Help- I don't have to sit and wait. He is my HELP right now.

See, today, we do not have to wait, we don't have to worry. He is our Shelter, He is our Strength, and He is this right now!

Naps & Work

We were just in the mood for a salad on Sunday evening and it was pretty good.

On Sunday, we returned to West Burnsville Baptist Church ad really enjoyed the sermon and the service. We were made to feel at home and I feel that we will be going back for sure. After church, I just had to have a nap, and the boys joined me.

Work- Well, it's going. Some days are awesome and everything flows fine, and then there are days like yesterday. Too many people out of town and I just can't get enough Medics. Well, overall it is fine. Still lots of laughter and it appears that everyone is still happy.
